Di Maria has already returned to full training and United boss Louis van Gaal is set to recall him for the trip to Villa Park.
Former United coach Rene Meulensteen has backed Ryan Giggs to take over as manager of the club in the future.
Meulensteen said: "I am delighted that Ryan is still there, I think it was also a great experience for him to have the team for the last four-five games of last season, to get a taste of it.
"I hope in the future Ryan is given the chance to manage Manchester United.
"Is he good enough to manage United? Yes, without a shadow of a doubt."
Red Devils transfer target Martin Odegaard has been offered the chance to join German outfit Hoffenheim.
Odegaard, 15, is the most sought-after teenager in world football with all of Europe's top clubs eager to sign him but the Bundesliga side have made a play for his signature.
"Martin Odegaard is very good," Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen Rosen told Eurosport.
"He is a phenomenon, but I seriously believe that we could be a very nice stepping stone for Martin."
United are also set to miss out on Napoli schemer Marek Hamsik, who is wanted by Arsenal as part of a £50m double deal.
The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the Slovakian midfielder in recent weeks with Louis van Gaal eager to strengthen his midfield options.
However, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is monitoring Hamsik and Roma striker Mattia Destro ahead of a potential January raid.
