Roger Federer has been serene and breezy in his progress at Wimbledon so far, and the Swiss ace will hope for another similar afternoon on the No.1 Court in the men's singles quarterfinal against Gilles Simon on Wednesday.

Federer looks determined to bulge his Wimbledon winner's trophy collection to eight this year, and going by his form, it looks more than possible.

The No.2 seed was comfortable, and then some, in his fourth round match on Monday, dispatching Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets to setup this meeting with Simon in the men's singles quarterfinals.

Having played Sam Querrey and Sam Groth – two big-servers -- in the second and third rounds, Federer was clearly happy to play someone who prefers to stay on the baseline a lot more.

"It was nice to play a baseliner after two big servers," Federer said after his win over Bautista Agut. "I did a nice job making the transition. Clearly I felt I had more time on the return, still was able to play aggressive tennis, committed on the return as well, which sometimes all of a sudden if you have time, you tend to just get it in and get the rally started.

"It was a good match. I got off to a good start and kept rolling. Obviously maybe Roberto wasn't at his very best. Midway through the second, he hurt himself. Still, he was out there and he was actually still moving OK, so I had to put him away, which I was able to do so."

Federer's brilliant form at this Wimbledon – he has only dropped one set, to Groth in a tie-breaker – has been primarily due to his serving. No opponent has been able to come close to breaking Federer's serve so far, and that is something which will need to change if Simon is to cause an upset.

"I look at my next round opponent -- Gilles Simon is one of the best return players we have in the game," Federer added. "I would think I'll be tested a lot. So that streak's maybe coming to an end, in my opinion."

Simon will certainly hope so, even if the Frenchman is also a baseline player who is unlikely to cause Federer too many problems with his serves. The Frenchman's plan will be to match Federer in the rallies and make sure he plays the big points better, which is, of course, easier said than done.

The No.12 seed, though, will take heart from his fabulous 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win over sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the fourth round.

"We have never played on grass," Simon said of facing Federer. "I think he's playing really good right now. He is in really good shape.

"I would just go there and try to play what I'm playing from the beginning of the tournament and from the beginning of the grass court season.

"I have often had some close matches with Roger. Still he destroyed me once, so I'm ready that it can be sometimes difficult to face him, but one more time I just feel good and I just want to play it."
