New England vs New York Red Bulls
Major League Soccer
Date: Thursday, 6th July 2017
Kick off at 00:30 UK/ 01:30 CET
Venue: Gillette Stadium.
Six weeks ago New England Revolution travelled to New York and came away losers, 2-1, to a couple of late Red Bulls goals. This week roles are reversed as NY Red Bulls travel to Boston’s Gillette Stadium as guests for the two teams’ next MLS regular season match.
Both clubs also advanced to the US Open Cup quarterfinals last week however and NYRB return for that game on July 13.
Here’s a quick preview of the first of those two games.
Revolution will also be looking to bounce back after a horrendous 3-0 defeat to Philadelphia Union at the weekend.
The team led by Jay Heaps thus dropped down to the penultimate tenth position on the East and they are desperate to clinch the home points to stay in touch with the sixth-placed Columbus Crew who are currently five points away.
New York RB
The Bulls faced Philadelphia in the US Open Cup action seven days ago when they advanced to the quarterfinal after penalties (the regular time ended 1-1).
Jesse Marsch’s men generally have a poor record on the road where they lost six on the bounce without finding the net in four consecutive matches before ending the horrific streak by beating Phila in the league clash 0-2.
New England vs NY Red Bulls: Head to head
It is interesting to note that each of the last seven head to head meetings between the two sides saw home wins.
This includes the encounter from late May when Bradley Wright-Philips and Daniel Royer created a comeback for the Bulls at their Red Bull Arena.
New England vs NY Red Bulls: Prediction
The value is certainly in backing the hosts to maintain the trend in head to head encounters.
Marsch’s men will have hard time scoring a goal at Gillette Stadium which has been a fortress for all teams but Chicago Fire in this term of Major League Soccer.
